I/We heard about the campaign through

We heard about the Skills Pledge via the North Lindsey College Employer Partnership.

I/We signed up to the Humber Skills Pledge because

The Humber LEP’s Skills Pledge encompasses many things that we feel are integral to our business. On learning more about the campaign, it quickly became apparent that we were already delivering against the individual pledges without necessarily shouting about it.

How I/we see it benefitting the company/organisation

Training, supporting and empowering our staff is very important to us. It ensures we have a workforce who are productive and importantly enjoy coming to work.

How I/We see it benefitting the wider community / local economy

We invest heavily in developing the skills of our workforce and take pride in the fact that they act as our biggest advertisement to the wider community. This includes our work with local education providers including North Lindsey College and Baysgarth 6th Form where staff are encouraged to do that little bit extra. Taking part in mock interviews or welcoming a group of young people to our manufacturing facility is an invaluable way for us to showcase the careers available at Howarth Timber Group.

If you have recently started fulfilling one or more of the pledges since signing up, what are you doing?

N/A

If you were already fulfilling one or more of the pledges before signing up to the campaign, please tell us what you do

We were already fulfilling the pledges before signing up to the campaign, in fact they are embedded within a lot of the work we do. As a flavour of some of that activity, we:
• Support North Lindsey College with materials used in the curriculum
• Are members of the Wood Industry Training Forum and have plans to establish a local Centre of Excellence
• Have a team of five trainers employed within the business with access to two training rooms at our New Holland site
• Support Baysgarth 6th Form through a partnership in association with KPMG
• Employ a number of apprentices across the business
• Hold the Silver Investors in People award

What would you say to someone thinking of supporting the campaign?

Investing in skills, training and most importantly in people is vital for any business. The growth of the region’s economy depends on such activity so whether you have practices embedded within your business or are looking for how you might get involved signing up to the Skills Pledge is a great way to show your commitment.
