Agenda Security Services offer pre-employment screening, background checks, due diligence and vetting. They won the East Riding Best Business Award 2014 based on their focus on their people and service delivery.
As a service company, they rely on well trained and motivated people to deliver a professional and friendly service. Agenda Security Services are Investors in People assessed and believe strongly that the continual professional development of their team alongside the company’s core values and long term strategy are fundamental to their success.
Director of Operations Norman Mortell told us: "We have ambitious plans to double in size by 2020, this will mean the recruitment, training and development of more 50 people. We expect the majority of these people to come from the local community. In a rural location with few large businesses, we believe that this will have a positive impact on the local economy.
"We have recently developed relationships with our local school and Hull University with the aim of providing job opportunities and works placements for students. We have also started looking at apprenticeship opportunities and have met the providers to look at having a continual stream of apprentices coming into the business in office admin, customer service and IT support roles over the next few years"
When asked about the skills of the existing team, Norman said: "For our staff we have a well-defined programme of on the job, internal and external training opportunities. To assist with this each person receives an annual training bank account. We have a defined goal of being a great place to work and a large element of this is about people development.
"We have conducted internal skills audits, training calendars and recognise potential gaps in skills and knowledge as we grow the business, to meet our needs we have set training and development objectives in annual appraisals and longer term plans to fill skills gaps."
Norman's advice to others thinking of supporting the Skills Pledge campaign... "Some say of you train people they will leave; we say if you don’t train them they will stay and that is worse! Hopefully if you train people and look after their longer term development they will stay too. Signing the Humber Skills Pledge shows a public commitment to continual learning and development, reassures staff of that commitment and may have the added benefit of assisting in the attraction of future new employees!"
