Green Futures Great Grimsby Ltd

Green Futures Great Grimsby Ltd, a social enterprise working with people of all ages in the Greater Grimsby area to create a sustainable, green future for all.  They are also the 250th organisation to sign up to the Skills Pledge.

Green Futures focuses on food production and operates from the Vanson Centre in Bradley, formerly a plant nursery for North East Lincolnshire Council. From there, Green Futures grows food for the local community, supplies vegetable boxes, plants and whole-foods and offers gardening services.

Green Futures creates jobs and has demonstrated its commitment to developing the potential of its own employees by signing the LEP’s Skills Pledge to offer work placements, apprenticeships and enhance staff’s employability skills.

Carol Prendergast, Chief Executive of Green Futures Greater Grimsby Ltd said:  “We believe that “local food” is best and aim to develop our resources in ways which benefit the health and wellbeing of the whole community and support the local economy. Signing the Skills Pledge fits this Green Futures ethos, that our employees and volunteers - our most valued resource – should get the best training, guidance and support which not only adds value to developing the business but also enables them to be a more confident, skilled and employable workforce.”

Carol noted; "As a small social enterprise we rely heavily on volunteers, work placements and a small staff team. We therefore think it is important that we support the team to develop skills, experience and knowledge to progress through their employment journeys."

Carol, who is a member of the North East Lincs-wide Employability Forum, has also made her own pledge to encourage other social enterprises to sign up to the Skills Pledge.

When asked what they would she would say to someone thinking of signing up to the pledges, Carol's message was: "If you have a strong staff team and are already involved in recruiting local people then why not get recognition for your work via the Humber Pledge."
