Cofely Fabricom GDF Suez

Cofely Fabricom GDF SUEZ is an organisation that is helping to shape the future by providing high value consultancy, engineering, management and construction expertise and capability to the oil gas and power industrial sectors.

Yvonne Day, Resources & Development Director UK told us: "One of our key strategic objectives is to bridge the age gap within our workforce and retain trade skills within our industry and to upskill for our engineering capabilities and future technologies.  We signed the Humber Skills Pledge to highlight our extremely focussed apprenticeship, graduate engineering programs and to ensure that our dedication to this is recognised more widely within industry.

"We are involved in local initiatives promoting the engineering industry, attracting women into engineering, thereby offering diversity.  Assisting local unemployed to upskill and improve their employability.  We also go further than this in that we have a strong relationship with the Armed Forces to support service leavers into the industry.

"Our success was realised in a relatively short period of time; we are proud to have recruited and trained more than seventy apprentices during the past six years and 20 graduates, most of which successfully passed their apprenticeship and remained within the business to further their career development and build a sustainable workforce for the future.  Many have progressed to ONC, HNC or degree level qualifications, and several have since undertaken further training programs which will lead them to potential Chartership in their chosen fields of expertise.  A number of our apprentices have achieved prestigious accolades such as National Apprentice of the Year and ECITB Learner of the Year, for which we are delighted.

The experience has been extremely positive for our business; we are now recognised locally as a leading figure in the investment and development of a younger, talented workforce with a commitment that will last for many years to come."

When asked what she would say to someone thinking of supporting the Skills Pledge campaign, Yvonne said: "Do not hesitate to commit to the Skills Pledge, it is for the benefit of the business and industry.  We must be seen to be the lead to encourage for the future of young, talented and enthusiastic individuals for industry."
