They signed up to the pledge as they believe in supporting the development and employment of local people. It will benefit them as they employ staff who are part of the community they serve and therefore can be more sensitive to meeting the needs of local patients and service users. It will benefit the wider community as, by supporting the development and employment of local people they hope to retain their knowledge and skills locally and this in turn supports the development of the community through staff living and spending locally.

To fulfil the pledges they employ apprentices in their non-clinical support teams, for example in their housekeeping services and administrative teams. They also increase skills within their workforce by supporting staff to undertake NVQs, Foundation Degrees, Professional qualifications, Basic Numeracy and Literacy Skills and develop IT skills. They also provide mentors to support staff in their professional development

For anyone considering signing up to the pledge they say, “Do It!  There is so much talent in the Humber area, so let’s not waste it.”
