Hull College Group

Hull College signed up to all six pledges as they felt it is important to demonstrate the different methods of support an employer can provide to their workforce and local community.

To increase skills within their workforce Hull College run the “ASPIRE Programme” which supports individuals to further develop and gain new skills. To mentor a budding entrepreneur they run the “Hull College Enterprise Gateway service” which is a dedicated service that has supported 200 budding entrepreneurs in the last two years and has helped create and grow of a number of successful businesses in Hull and the East Riding.

Hull College provides work placements for a high number of young people and adults that are based in a number of academic and support areas and have provided a valuable source of work experience. The College currently employ around 40 apprentices in a range of roles across the business. These have improved efficiencies in service delivery, higher levels of motivation and outstanding levels of commitment to the organisation. Apprentices play a valuable role in workforce strategy, creating the next generation of skilled employees that the college needs to sustain excellence. Already Hull College is a major employer of local graduates who work in academic or support roles within the college.

They work closely with the Future Hull & East Riding Team to support the development of employability skills and opportunities for 16-24 and have created the web platform upon which the initiative is now based.

Overall they would like to encourage more employers to promote the excellent work they do with their employees and help to communicate this across the wider business community to share good practice.
