Bishop Burton College

To fulfil one of the pledges Bishop Burton College is taking on a number of graduate trainees in a bid to boost employment opportunities for degree-educated young people in the local area. As a Higher Education provider, the College is only too aware that graduate positions can be highly competitive and sometimes difficult to secure. This is why Bishop Burton has taken another look at some of the positions they are currently recruiting to, and assessing whether they could be tailored specifically for graduates, by incorporating ‘on-the-job’ training and a competitive salary structure.

Former student Benjamin Chapman was recently appointed as Graduate Trainee Lecturer in Land-based Studies. Benjamin has just graduated with a first class honours degree in Agricultural Resource Management from the College and was excited to be offered a chance to continue his connection with Bishop Burton. He said, “I saw the graduate trainee programme as a great opportunity to begin a career in education.”

Ruth Wells, Curriculum and Learning Manager for Land-based Studies, is currently recruiting another graduate lecturer for her department and feels the positions will provide essential skills and work experience for the successful candidates. She said, “Our new graduate lecturers will get experience of teaching across a range of levels within the department whilst completing their studies for a teaching qualification. “

Land-based Studies is not the only area that is recruiting in this way, other departments such as Human resources have also recruited graduates.
